Good Intentions
We were at cruise when the Lead Flight Attendant advised that she had a passenger on supplemental oxygen. About a half an hour later she showed up in the cockpit and asked to borrow our O2 bottle as she had gone through all the other bottles. We said: What was going on?” thinking that this must be a major medical situation that might require a diversion. She said: “No everything is under control." The passenger is just elderly and requires a little oxygen from time to time. We inquired as to how she could have already gone through 4 oxygen bottles in such a short period of time. The explanation left us shaking our heads. The lead had used each bottle down to 1550 psi, then moved on to the next one. I guess that nobody explained that the 1550 psi is just a minimum for dispatch but that she could use the entire bottle when needed.
