He Spoke Too Soon
Heard this exchange on the frequency a while ago. “Center, this airline 123, any chance of getting the block 310-330. Center says: “Well, it’s pretty quiet, sure maintain the block FL 310 to FL 330.” A couple of minutes goes by and Center says: “Just curious, why did you want the block altitude?” I can just see the pandemonium in the cockpit of the other airliner as the F/O starts speaking before the Captain can stop him: “Well the autopilot is on the MEL and the Captain didn’t want to take the chance of an altitude bust.” Needless to say the comments from all the other airliners on the frequency were merciless.
