Almost a Go Around
We were on final behind a Cessna 150 who had just landed. The Tower advised the Cessna to take the next turnoff as jet traffic was behind him. The Cessna blew by that turnoff. The Tower told the Cessna to expedite to the next turnoff since a 727 was on a mile final. I could tell that the Cessna pilot was extremely nervous when he replied and subsequently missed the turnoff. We were almost in the flare and I was about to push up the power for the go around when my Captain keyed the microphone and said: “HIT THE GRASS!!” The Cessna made an immediate left turn across the grass and out of our way. We touched down moments later. The Tower said: “Who said that?” but of course there was only dead silence in response. I couldn’t believe the Captain’s solution, but it did work.
