Got Kicked Off and It Was Good News

We had just gotten an RJ for the evening departure to my home city, ATL.  I had checked the load and it was wide open.  Unfortunately it was a rare snowy day in Charlotte, and by the time I had walked all the way down to E Con, the departure lounge was full.  Turns out it was snowing in Atlanta as well and Delta had cancelled.  All of their folks had been rebooked on our express flight and according to current TSA rules they all had to be re-screened.  The process took forever, and I wasn’t even sure of getting on.  Finally about an hour after departure time, my name is called and I make my way out to the airplane.  My seat is occupied so I am standing just aft of the galley and overhearing some cockpit conversation.  The crew is discussing weight issues.  I’m thinking, this doesn’t look good.  Finally I get to an open seat and the door closes, but nothing happens for a good ½ hour.  I’m beginning to wonder if this is such a great idea.  We are already running way late, and we’re going to have to be de-iced – a very time consuming process in CLT.  When we ever do make it off, we are going to be slowed way up and probably make a few turns in holding before they let us land in Atlanta.  Next comes the wait for the bus and the long ride to employee parking.  Finally, I’m going to have to dig out my car and navigate the roads home with a bunch of southern drivers who don’t have a clue how to drive in the snow.  As I’m pondering all this, the door opens and the Gate Agent requests that three passengers come forward including me.  As I was leaving, I remember thinking – for once this was a good thing.  I headed to the crash pad and enjoyed a quiet evening instead of a nightmare.
